An Inside Look at My Diet as Someone with an A1C Below 6.0 and 80% TIR

This week I’m diving into the topic of diet and improving your relationship with food as a type one. I’ll be sharing the five foundational components of my T1D nutrition philosophy and getting a bit personal with my diet, background, and where I've been with my relationship with food. Navigating food with T1D can be overwhelming, so if you… Are confused by the extreme ways of eating being pushed within the community Want to eat what you like without your blood sugars suffering Wish you could get to a place where food doesn’t take up as much of your mental energy … then you’re going to want to listen to this episode because I’m sharing: The journey I went on to get to where I am today with my relationship to food The 5 key components of the system I’ve created that works for my body  *how* you can get to this middle ground and have more peace of mind and steady blood sugars. I do want to give a trigger warning that I do talk about dieting and tracking macros. So please skip this if you are not in a good place to explore these topics. On May 14th we are hosting a Risely Community Challenge that anyone who has our 7 Day Nutrition and Blood Sugar Guide can be part of. Newly Diagnosed Adult T1D Talk 101 with Risely Coach Emily Petersen

April 25, 2023
Today’s episode is specifically for community members who have been newly diagnosed with type one diabetes. There's no definitive cutoff of when you are no longer “newly diagnosed,” but I will say that this episode is a must-listen if you’ve been diagnosed in the last three or so years. My co-host and guest today is Risely Health Coach Emily Peterson! Emily was diagnosed with T1D two and a half years ago and lives in the Dallas Fort Worth area with her husband Corbin. Fun fact: they're both paragliding pilots! This is also a great episode to send to family members or partners so that they can gain more insight into what you might be going through with your new diagnosis as an adult with type one. In this episode, we discuss… The underwhelming support Emily received from her healthcare team at diagnosis  The main challenges we see newly diagnosed T1Ds face around their relationship to food, body, and self The mindset shift Emily used to help her feel more comfortable with taking insulin The most important things to focus on while you're in the beginning phases of your journey with diabetes  I do want to give a trigger warning that we do talk about weight, diets, and body image. So please skip this if you are not in a good place to explore these topics. There are 2 weeks left to enroll in our Spring 2023 Decide and Conquer Group Coaching Program . Learn more and apply HERE . She went three years before receiving the correct diagnosis. We talk about... How at the peak of her life in 2021 with a new job, a beautiful home, and a great relationship she was in the darkest part of her diabetes burnout How she became more confident in her management than ever before  How she gained the courage to switch over from MDI to an insulin pump How plant-based eating helped her find the joy of cooking again  How she lowered her A1C from 7.1 to a 6.3  There are 3 weeks left to enroll in our Spring  2023 Decide and Conquer Group Coaching Program .
