77. What is "enough?"An episode for T1D perfectionists

77. What is "enough?"An episode for T1D perfectionists

August 15, 2023
Welcome back to the podcast! Today’s episode will be a little different because we’re NOT discussing how to lower your A1C or increase your time in range. Those are all important things and are covered in many episodes of Reclaim Your Rise, BUT today we’re focusing on mindset and self-compassion, specifically for perfectionists. The truth is, your personality type plays a big role in managing diabetes: from your strengths, to your roadblocks, to how you *relate* to it. And, as a recovering perfectionist myself, I feel like in the T1D realm we often get the short end of the stick in receiving the type of support we need to feel better with our diabetes or to move forward in our lives. In this episode, I’ll share five mindset reframes and journaling prompts that can help you discover the aspects of your life as a perfectionist that may be inhibiting your progress in finding freedom and peace of mind with diabetes. We are now enrolling for the next round of the Decide and Conquer Bootcamp, our signature group coaching program for women with T1D. Spots are limited and we begin August 22nd. Confronting the Parts of T1D That Aren't Talked About Enough Through Community with Sally Gibney

Confronting the Parts of T1D That Aren't Talked About Enough Through Community with Sally Gibney

August 8, 2023
Welcome back to the podcast! Today's guest is Sally Gibney, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes four and a half years ago. Sally is a senior project manager at the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, where she provides leadership in developing and executing program strategies for catalyzing innovative practice change in pediatrics. She also hosts the Center's podcast, The Brain Architects. Sally lives in Boston, Massachusetts with her partner, Charlie, and their newborn son, James. I met Sally about nine months ago when she enrolled in our Decide and Conquer Bootcamp. Despite looking like the “perfect” type 1 on paper with a 5.9 A1C and 91% time and range, she was experiencing intense diabetes burnout. Now, almost a year later, she's here with us today to share her story about… Reclaiming her mental health with T1D Transitioning from daily injections to an insulin pump for the first time  Finding a diabetes community that helped her unlock more freedom with T1D than she thought was possible Going through IVF with type one diabetes and becoming a first-time parent Overcoming perfectionism with her numbers  …and so much more!  We are now enrolling for the next round of the Decide and Conquer Bootcamp, our signature group coaching program for women with T1D. Spots are limited and we begin August 22nd. Learn more and apply HERE . Hit the subscribe button and rate and review to help this podcast rise! 75. 5 Tips for Optimal Blood Sugars When You're Out of Routine

75. 5 Tips for Optimal Blood Sugars When You're Out of Routine

August 1, 2023
It's undeniably harder for us all, including myself, to manage our blood sugars when we are traveling, going out to eat, or any other spontaneous events that come up. Afterall, diabetes thrives in a routine. BUT that doesn’t mean that we can’t feel good about our blood sugars while living with freedom and flexibility to enjoy life’s out of routine moments. I feel like this is a perfect time to discuss this topic because I'm coming off four weeks in a row of being more out of routine than in one. In today’s episode, I’m sharing the 5 key factors that helped me maintain 86% TIR throughout a month in which I… ✅ Traveled to San Diego, Newport RI, Montauk, and Chicago ✅ Changed time zones ✅ Sat for long hours in the car/plane ✅ Had different food, exercise, and sleep routines ✅ Spent time in hot, humid weather ✅ Enjoyed a few drinks You will learn both the tactical pieces to consider when you're going out of your routine and the one major mindset shift that has helped me and over 600 coaching clients at Risely.
