about

Megan is a certified health coach at Risely Health.

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Megan was diagnosed with T1D at 26 years old. She didn’t know what T1D was and had never met anybody with T1D. At that time, there were no CGMs and the first long-acting insulin, Lantus, had just hit the market.
Megan was a very active person prior to her T1D diagnosis. She worked at the San Diego Zoo managing a conservation education program with the Zoo’s ambassador animals and loved hiking, being in nature, and scuba diving.

After diagnosis, Megan immersed herself into all of the educational material she could find on adults with T1D and started attending any and all support groups available. She quickly discovered there wasn’t a lot of emotional support and there was a huge gap in the healthcare system for adults with T1D. Megan was very sensitive to insulin and struggled with low blood sugars frequently which created anxiety around effectively managing her T1D. While she managed 3 healthy T1D pregnancies (without a CGM!), she spent many years hiding her diabetes from everyone because she didn't want people to see her as a diabetic.

After relocating back to Texas and spending time as a stay at home mom, Megan felt called to find a T1D community and get support on improving her management so that she could live the active life she loved with less fear. She found Risely, went through the DCB, and ultimately decided to shift careers and pursue her passion of helping other T1D women as a coach.

Megan graduated from UT Austin with a BS in Corporate Communications and an associates degree in Spanish. She is also a certified legal mediator and certified Integrated Nutrition and Health coach. Megan has experience as a T1D coach for Dartmouth College. Megan currently lives in the Dallas, Texas area with her husband and three children. Outside of coaching, you can find her spending time outdoors and exploring the trails on horseback as much as possible!
