No One Right Way to Raise T1D Kids: An Intimate Conversation with Two Parents

May 19, 2022
In this week’s bi-weekly episode focused on parents and caregivers of kids with type one diabetes, I’m throwing it back to an insightful zoom interview I did last year with two parents of T1D kids, Doug and Lacey. I coached both families for over two years, and their growth in mindset and managing numbers has been tremendous. I can’t wait to share their journeys with you. Doug lives in Connecticut with his wife, Gina, and their two kids. His daughter Sabrina was diagnosed at nine and is now 13. Lacy lives in Chicago with her husband Brian and their three boys. Her son Ethan was diagnosed at 20 months old and is now eight. In this episode, we talk about so much including… Navigating different management and parenting styles Finding balance with food and blood sugars How both families handle leaving their child in someone else's care The impact of teaching kids to strive for perfection with their T1D. Megan Baumley on her transformation from T1D death sentence to holistic empowerment

May 17, 2022
In this week’s episode, I’m joined by Megan Baumley to discuss how her relationship with T1D  transformed from feeling like her diagnosis was a death sentence to finding empowerment through a holistic approach. Megan was diagnosed with T1D right before her 18th birthday. Before joining Risely’s Decide & Conquer Bootcamp in 2021, she was all or nothing with her diabetes, super anxious about her health, embarrassed by her numbers, and afraid to admit that she needed help. Listen to learn how Megan not only accepted her diabetes but also found confidence and a whole new sense of self through the process. Coming to you today with a special BONUS episode! I followed my intuition one morning and recorded this very raw, unplanned episode because this topic is something I am personally facing right now, which made me think others might be going through something similar. In today’s show, I open up about my past experiences with stress, including… 👉 the times that my body has been completely out of balance 👉 the consequences I faced after ignoring my body’s signals 👉 and what it took for me to shift from pushing through to slowing down I also share ways to recognize the signs of stress in your body and strategies to recenter yourself. And we wrap it all up with a grounding exercise with the hope that you’ll finish this episode feeling even just the slightest bit more at ease.
