If you’re parenting a child with type 1 diabetes, you know this feeling well:
Every new device comes with hope, hesitation, and about a hundred questions you wish you could ask someone who truly gets it.
At Risely, our work has always centered on helping families feel more confident navigating the day-to-day realities of type 1 diabetes, not just the medical decisions, but the emotional ones too. That’s why we partner with brands who are equally committed to simplifying life with T1D.
Together with Tandem Diabetes Care, we’re answering some of the most common questions we hear from parents about the Tandem Mobi system, so you can make informed choices with clarity, not overwhelm.
"Doesn't the tubing get in the way for kids?"
"It did worry me at first, but for us it has not been an issue at all. Miles is active and is rolling around, having fun all the time! We just don't experience issues like you'd think! I don't worry about it, and honestly, Myles doesn't either." - Ashley, mom of Miles
“Do you have to wear it in the adhesive sleeve?"
Nope! With the Tandem Mobi, you can wear it in an adhesive sleeve,* clip it onto your clothing, or slip it in your pocket. Your child can wear the pump with short or long tubing depending on their lifestyle that day!
“I am worried AutoBolus will be too aggressive.”
The pump will only automatically deliver 60% of the calculated correction bolus when your glucose is predicted to exceed 180 mg/dL in the near future! Only Tandem pumps have AutoBolus which helps prevent hyperglycemia.†
“Does the Tandem Mobi learn your blood sugars over time and use the past to make future dosing decisions?"
Control-IQ+ technology looks 6 readings ahead (30 minutes) and makes decisions now. Diabetes is different every single day which is why people see great results with an algorithm that looks at what is happening in the “now.”
“What if I leave my phone behind?”
Don't worry! The Tandem Mobi system communicates directly to your CGM which means that Control-IQ+ will continue to adjust in the background even if your phone isn't around. Plus, there is a Quick Bolus button on the pump in case you need to dose for a meal or correct a high blood sugar! You can download the Tandem Mobi mobile app on any compatible iPhone and login to the app in the event that you lose your phone. ‡
“Is Control-IQ+ helpful if my child has different needs at school vs. home?"
Absolutely! The beauty of Tandem pumps that have a basal schedule is that you can create up to six different Personal Profiles with varying insulin dosages. For example, many families will have a different profile for school days, soccer days, sick days, or weekends at home. Kids’ insulin needs are constantly changing and Tandem Mobi gives you options for that!

† If glucose values are predicted to be above 180 mg/dL, Control-IQ+ technology calculates an AutoBolus using the Personal Profile settings and a target of 110 mg/dL and delivers 60% of that value.
‡ The mobile app requires a compatible iPhone model and operating system (sold separately). Only available to pump users who reside in the United States.
Visit tandemdiabetes.com/compatibility for a complete list of compatible smartphone models and operating systems. Important Safety Information: RX ONLY. The Tandem Mobi insulin pump with interoperable technology (the pump) and Control-IQ+ technology (Control-IQ+) are intended for single patient use. The pump and Control-IQ+ are indicated for use with NovoLog or Humalog U-100 insulin. Tandem Mobi system: The Tandem Mobi insulin pump is intended for the subcutaneous delivery of insulin, at set and variable rates, for the management of diabetes mellitus in persons requiring insulin. The pump is able to reliably and securely communicate with compatible, digitally connected devices, including automated insulin dosing software, to receive, execute, and confirm commands from these devices. The pump is indicated for use in persons 2 years of age and greater. Control-IQ+ technology: Control-IQ+ technology is intended for use with compatible integrated continuous glucose monitors (iCGM, sold separately) and alternate controller enabled (ACE) pumps to automatically increase, decrease, and suspend delivery of basal insulin based on iCGM readings and predicted glucose values. It can also deliver correction boluses when the glucose value is predicted to exceed a predefined threshold. Control-IQ+ technology is intended for the management of type 1 diabetes mellitus in persons 2 years of age and greater and of type 2 diabetes mellitus in persons 18 years of age and greater.
BOXED WARNING: Control-IQ+ technology should not be used in anyone under the age of 2 years old with type 1 diabetes or under the age of 18 years old with type 2 diabetes. It should also not be used in patients who require less than a total daily insulin dose of 5 units of insulin per day or who weigh less than 20 pounds (9 kilograms), as those are the required minimum values needed for Control-IQ+ to operate safely. Users of the pump and Control-IQ+ must: use the insulin pump, iCGM, and all other system components in accordance with their respective instructions for use. Failure to follow these instructions for use could result in an over delivery or under delivery of insulin. This can cause hypoglycemia (low BG) or hyperglycemia (high BG) events.
