about

Megan Baumley is a certified health coach at Risely Health.

Megan was diagnosed with T1D at age 18 during her sophomore year of college and in the midst of a transformative period in her personal life. Being in college, trying to balance school and a part time job, dealing with personal issues, and handling this new diagnosis was overwhelming and left her feeling burnt out. As time progressed, her relationship with herself and diabetes became really poor leading to an unsustainable lifestyle.

Megan wanted to make an impact in the T1D community and spent years volunteering for the American Diabetes Association. Still, she didn't feel fulfilled and knew she could make more of an impact with this community. Megan fully understood the gaps in the healthcare system and was frustrated that there wasn't more information out there to support people living with T1D. Because of this, she became passionate about supporting people with T1D and finding better access to care and support in managing this diagnosis.

Megan went through the Group Coaching Program with Risely Health. The community at Risely gave her space to acknowledge the struggles she was dealing with and empowered her to navigate through them with more confidence. This mindset shift made her decide to become a Certified Health Coach to help empower other T1Ds. In addition to Health Coaching, Megan is a speech-language pathologist. She lives in central New Jersey with her husband.

WHAT t1Ds Are SAYING

Here’s how graduates feel on the other side.

"Working 1-1 with Meg for the past three months has been the most impactful thing I have done since my diagnosis. She was a mentor, a coach, a confidant, a cheerleader, and a friend. It felt like she really understood where I was coming from with all the things. The stark contrast to working with my endo was "here is the plan, let's check back in 90 days with how it went and make adjustments from there." WILD. I felt so completely lost and working with Meg on a high-touch, consistent basis is what helped me find my way. ‍After completing coaching, I feel free. I feel empowered. I feel like I'm getting my life back. I feel confident to make my own decisions when it comes to daily T1D maintenance."

"I went into coaching not only frustrated with my diabetes but with myself for not being able to figure it out after 13 years or with 5 siblings who have type 1. I am beyond thankful I went through with it and for my coach. Since Meg has type one diabetes too, I felt like I could talk about my diabetes with someone who gets it AND someone who knows how to help me. I felt understood. For the first time in a long time, it didn't feel like a burden to talk about or even manage my diabetes."

My last A1C before the program was 8.4% and I felt like I had no where to go for help after my doctor basically told me that I don’t care about my diabetes. My endo appointment was almost 3 months into the program. Based on the progress I made throughout the program and looking at my numbers I thought that a 7.3% would be reasonable at the time. After the A1C test the number read 6.7% and I was blown away.

No one is perfect in the world of diabetes and this approach looks at whole picture of health focusing on mental social and physical. You might have one piece of the puzzle but there is a way bigger picture to look at. I am so grateful for this program and taking the time and energy to invest in my health!

"Throughout my 1:1 coaching, I’ve gotten to know Megan as a friend while other doctors are just there to do their job. I learned solid routines and habits, gained confidence, improvements in my numbers, knowledge, and so much that has helped me grow in my relationship with T1D. I want to see a lot of coaches as nice and comforting as Megan. Now I feel more confident in my methods and playing sports is easier. If you are thinking about coaching I would tell you that you should do it, it helps with everything in your life." ‍
